Visual Arts Classes at the Creative Arts Guild offer students of all ages and skill levels an opportunity to explore art in a supportive and nurturing environment that welcomes exploration, discovery and development of skill, and technique. CLASSES FOR CHILDREN & TEENS

ART TOTS

In this class Petit Picassos and the Adult of their choice will get creative (and messy)! This class is very much about the process and not necessarily about the finished product. Get ready to have fun with your child while sparking the imagination and creativity. Pricing includes supply fee.

DISCOVERING ART

Students will learn how to express their imaginations while exploring drawing, painting, sculpture, and fine craft techniques. Each child will create multiple artworks while gaining a better understanding of the creative process. Pricing includes supply fee.

PAINTING EXPLORATION FOR TEENS

In this class watercolor, acrylic, and oil paints will be introduced and used. While this is a structured course on painting methods, students' interest on subject matters will be taken into consideration. Pricing includes supply fee.

CLASSES FOR ADULTS

ACRYLIC PAINTING (BEGINNER-ADVANCED)

This course focuses on acrylic painting techniques, materials, color theory, and composition. This course will be taught with the knowledge that discoveries will follow naturally, and technique and color will be emphasized. Beginning, intermediate, and advanced students are welcome. A materials list will be provided. Contact the instructor, Sandra Babb, at sandra@babb.com with questions. Students bring their own supplies.

DRAWING FOR ADULTS (BEGINNER-ADVANCED)

ADULT POTTERY

This 6-week adult pottery class offers an introduction to clay, hand-building techniques, and the use of the potter's wheel. For questions and more information about the class, contact the instructors, Dan and Mary DeFoor, at angelvillepottery@gmail.com. Pricing for beginners includes supply fee. Pricing for Advanced students includes supply fee up to 25lbs of clay. Additional clay may be purchased or students are welcome to bring their own.

WORKSHOP: EXPRESSIVE PAINTING IN ACRYLICS (INTERMEDIATE + ADVANCED)

*NOW OFFERED TWICE A MONTH* In this course, students will practice the methods of expressive acrylic painting while exploring a variety of subject matter and receiving instructor feedback on work.  This class is especially geared towards those with some acrylic painting experience (Sorry, not suitable for beginners).  Approaching painting as play will be emphasized while focusing on solid technique and other important skills.  Students will also be given "Monthly Challenges" for painting projects to work on at home and bring in for critique. Students will provide their own materials. Please see our registration portal for material suggestions. This is offered as one workshop per month. You must register for each workshop you would like to attend. Dates are listed below.

WORKSHOP: THIRSTY THURSDAYS ART WORKSHOPS FOR ADULTS (INTERMEDIAT

Each month students will complete projects from different mediums of the art world - jewelry making, acrylic painting, and everything in between. Keep an eye on our social media for upcoming class topics. Students are invited to bring their own adult beverage if they'd like - beverages will also be available for purchase through the Guild. Cost of class includes all materials.

All prices include supplies. Please register through our online registration portal, but please call to register to receive a $10 discount for registering siblings or for enrolling in multiple weeks. Please bring a water bottle and clothes that are comfortable and can get messy.

LIL' PIRATE & MERMAID CAMP - July 8-11, 9:00-11:15am | $160
Ahoy, mateys! Join Captain Creative and his crew each day reading about both pirates and mermaids and engaging in themed crafts, music, and games.

 

ART CAMPS FOR AGES 5-9 | 9am-12pm
FAIRY HOUSES - June 3-6

Instructor: Paula Plott Gregg | $200
Clap if you believe! Join us for a twinkling of enchantment and a bit of wonder as campers combine magic, imagination, building, and creating. Campers will get to construct, decorate, and furnish their very own fairy house to take home at the end of the week.

HEY BARBIE! MULTI-DISCIPLINARY CAMP (Ages 6-10) - June 10-13
"Hey Barbie!" Step inside your own pink world where we celebrate all things Barbie. In this camp, Barbies will learn dances to new and old Barbie music and create Barbie themed art in pink (because it goes with everything) and other fun activities. Come on - we've got important things to do...it's her and her and me and you! Please include your shirt size when registering.

THERE IS SCIENCE IN MY ART - June 17-20
Instructor: Melissa Herz | $190
Let your kids explore the wonders of art and science. This camp will include a lot of hands-on learning of how and why some things are the way they are. Some of the fun projects we will embark on will include kinetic clay, watercolor & oil painting, spin art, volcanoes, sun prints, and shadow drawing. Bring a water bottle and a snack!

ANIMAL ART - June 24-28
Instructor: Melissa Herz | $190
Each day a special animal friend will visit the class from the Animal Hospital of Whitfield County. Campers will enjoy a special lesson about the visiting animal led by veterinary staff before creating a new masterpiece inspired by their friend of the day. Bring a water bottle and a snack!

JUNGLE BOOK MULTI-DISCIPLINARY CAMP (Ages 5-10) - July 8-11 | $215
We will get down to the bare necessities in this fun filled multi-disciplinary experience for kids. Campers will sing, dance, and create jungle themed art and instruments. The week will culminate in a performance for families and friends on Thursday before the camp concludes.

ROYAL TEA PARTY MULTI-DISCIPLINARY CAMP (Ages 5-10) - July 15-18 | $215
Hear ye, hear ye, all little Princes and Princesses are hereby invited to our royal tea! Campers will spend the week in both visual art and culinary arts classes preparing for the ultimate tea party. On Thursday, each camper and one adult of their choosing will be able to attend the tea and sample all of the delights the little royals have been cooking up during the week.

 

ART CAMPS FOR AGES 10-14 | 1-4pm
PUPPET MAKING - June 10-13
Instructor: Paula Plott Gregg | $200
There are so many ways to make puppets - from simple socks, all the way to complex marionettes.  We will look at different methods and then create our own puppets from fabric, wood, and just about anything else we can get our hands on. We will use our characters to create a simple scene at the end of the week. Students will be taught to create puppets that are moveable,  inspired, and fun-filled.

ADVENTURES IN ART - JULY 15-18
Instructor: Paula Plott Gregg | $200
In this adventure-filled four day camp, students will explore and challenge themselves with new techniques and mediums. Student artists will have fun and get a little messy as they embark on creative projects using collage, wood, and mixed media to make their own masterpieces.

CREATIVE EMBROIDERY - July 29-August 1
Instructor: Audrey Batts | $165 per student
In this workshop, students will be taught the basics of hand embroidery including the tools used (and how to safely use them), how to start a project, and the basic stitches used to create their own embroidery hoop art. The students will leave the class with the knowledge to complete an embroidery hoop from start to finish. Participants should not expect to complete his/her project during class time but will leave with their tools and supplies so they may finish their projects outside of class. No prior sewing or needlework skills are required, just the willingness to try something new and the ability to be safe with sharp objects. *$10 discount does not apply to this camp.  

INTRODUCTION TO PROCREATE - June 3-6
Instructor: Melissa Herz | $100 per student
This beginner Procreate class has everything you need to know about how to use Procreate.  We will cover everything that new beginners need to know: brushes and other essential tools, gestures, layers, mask, working with color, the best file formats for sharing your artwork and organizing your files.  Students will need a touch screen computer or tablet and a stylus or Apple pencil.  The Procreate program will need to be purchased and added to your device before the camp. *$10 discount does not apply to this camp.

BLOCK PRINTING FOR TEENS - June 17-20

Discover the fun of block printing in this engaging class tailored for teens! Explore the fusion of arts and crafts as you delve into the captivating world of block printing. Students will learn the basics of printing and experiement with multiple prints and different inks. Join us for a hands-on exploration of block printing and unleash your creativity!

WATERCOLOR FOR TEENS - July 8-11

CREATIVE WRITING - June 3-6

Middle Schoolers (11-13yrs): 9am-12pm
High Schoolers (14-17yrs): 1-4pm
Unlock your creative potential and hone your writing skills in this engaging course specifically designed for teens. Explore the fundamentals of storytelling, including crafting compelling characters and vivid settings that captivate your audience. Learn essential editing and revising techniques to polish your work to perfection. Tailored for ages 11-17, this workshop offers a supportive environment where you will receive constructive feedback and guidance throughout your writing journey. Led by experienced instructor and published author Bradley Wilson.

Private Art Lessons

Private art lessons are available for students of all ages. With private lessons, the student can concentrate on any medium they choose. The student will meet one-on-one with the art instructor weekly. If you are interested in taking private art lessons, please call 706.278.0168. $45 per hour.

Visual Art Department Guidelines:

Registration: Visit our Registration Portal to register for classes. Registration is taken throughout the year and on first come-first serve basis. A $30 Yearly Registration Fee will be charged at time of Registration for fall classes. Classes with less than 3 students are subject to close due to low attendance or registration. Families of the closed class will be contacted prior to the last day. Staff members will assist in finding placement in another class.

Tuition and Withdrawal Policy: Visual Art classes are billed out monthly. Tuition is billed out the 1st of the month. A $10 late fee will incur if tuition is not paid by the 10th of the month. Registering for a class and/or lesson is a commitment to attend as scheduled. If for any reason you or your student cannot continue, you must notify the Guild/Instructor by completing a withdrawal notice. Accounts are charged for classes until a withdrawal request is received. 30-day notice must be given for classes/lessons. Students withdrawing from class or lessons with less than 30-day notice must pay for the following month.

Makeup Classes: If a teacher cannot attend a class they will arrange for a substitute, in the event that no substitute can be found the teacher may offer a make-up class. In the event that classes are canceled due to inclement weather, classes will be made up at the discretion of the teacher.
