Conasauga Shakespeare Coalition
The Conasauga Shakespeare Coalition is a professional, non-profit theater company based in Dalton, Georgia which looks to deliver theater to audiences of all ages, with an emphasis on the timeless works of William Shakespeare. The Coalition company is comprised of actors from many different backgrounds, ranging from union professionals and local talent, to student actors-in-training. CSC has hosted players from around the United States, to as far as Prague, Czech Republic.
In the summer of 2018, a small but merry band of local Players and Shakespeare enthusiasts that included Lane Davies, Wes Phinney, Chase Parker, and Jeff Burr, began discussing the idea of bringing together a group of 15-20 local and professional actors to form the basis of a permanent company to present annual Shakespeare productions in Burr Park. In addition to the permanent company, local high school, college, and even middle school students would be invited to participate in designated productions, giving them a unique opportunity to work in collaboration with working actors. The idea became the Conasauga Shakespeare Coalition, and, with the help of local attorneys Chris Brown and CPA Allen Bentley, the CSC was established as a not-for-profit performing arts organization dedicated primarily to the collected works of William Shakspeare. The coalition received the blessing and endowment of the late, beloved Jeanne Burr, with the plan to perform annual productions at Burr Park in conjunction with the summer concert series.
The company worked in partnership with the Creative Arts Guild, and in cooperation with the Dalton Little Theatre and Artistic Civic Theatre, forming a true arts coalition. With all of this in place, the Conasauga Shakespeare Coalition began work on its inaugural production of Henry V, with local and professional actors in place and Lane Davies directing. The first rate production team consisted of local filmmaker, Mark Hannah, who created the special effects for the production, Travis Lynch, who built an outstanding set that can be reconfigured for future productions, local professional musician Adam Burnette, who composed an original score for Henry V, and professional producer/director Chrystal Ayers, who oversaw the entire production as Production Stage Manager. In this inaugural production of the Conasauga Shakespeare Coalition in 2019, the company gave local audiences a taste of things to come.
Since their production of Henry V the Coalition has presented Twelfth Night (2021), A Midsummer Night's Dream (2022), Two Gentlemen of Verona (2023), Romeo & Juliet (2024), and Hamlet (2025).
AUDITION NOTICE – MACBETH
The Conasauga Shakespeare Coalition is seeking actors for our Fall 2026 production of William Shakespeare's Macbeth.
This Macbeth is set decades after the collapse of civilization. Endless wars, plague, crop failures, and environmental ruin have reduced humanity to scattered fortress settlements built atop the bones of the old world. Technology survives only as fragments and superstition. Relics of the past are treated as sacred objects or weapons of authority. In this brutal age, power belongs to those ruthless enough to seize and hold dwindling resources.
Seeking performers with strong storytelling abilities, emotional depth, and a willingness to embrace the physical and emotional demands of Shakespeare's greatest tragedy. Shakespeare experience is a plus, but not required.

All actors cast in the production will receive a stipend based on the role in which they are cast.
CSC is a nonprofit theatre company and is unable to provide travel, housing, or lodging.

MACBETH
Male, 30 to 49 years old, all ethnicities. A celebrated general and nobleman whose ambition and moral unraveling drive the tragedy. Brave, intelligent, charismatic, and deeply conflicted. Strong classical training and stage combat preferred.
LADY MACBETH
Female, 30 to 49 years old, all ethnicities. Macbeth's fiercely ambitious wife. Brilliant, persuasive, seductive, and emotionally complex. Seeking an actress with extraordinary emotional range, intelligence, sensuality, and psychological nuance. Strong classical training preferred.
BANQUO
Male, 30 to 50 years old, all ethnicities. A noble general and Macbeth's close companion. Brave, honorable, perceptive, and morally grounded. Actor should bring warmth, gravitas, and quiet strength. Stage combat required.
MACDUFF
Male, 30 to 50 years old, all ethnicities. A nobleman who becomes the primary force opposing Macbeth's tyranny. Fiercely loyal, courageous, emotionally raw, and driven by grief after the murder of his family. Stage combat required.
MALCOLM
Male, 20 to 39 years old, all ethnicities. The son of King Duncan and rightful heir to the Scottish throne. Intelligent, cautious, politically aware, and ultimately capable of restoring order to Scotland. Stage combat preferred.
THE THREE WITCHES
Any gender, 16 to 70 years old, all ethnicities. Mysterious supernatural figures who manipulate fate through prophecy, ritual, and psychological gamesmanship. Seeking highly physical performers with strong ensemble instincts, vocal dexterity, movement ability, and comfort with stylized theatricality.
FLEANCE
Male, 15 to 20 years old, all ethnicities. Banquo's son. Intelligent, observant, and resilient. Represents the future fulfillment of the witches' prophecy. Some stage combat is a plus.
LADY MACDUFF
Female, 30 to 40 years old, all ethnicities. Macduff's wife. Loving, sharp-witted, practical, and emotionally honest. Her scenes provide one of the play's few glimpses of warmth and domestic humanity before tragedy strikes.
DONALBAIN
Male, 18 to 29 years old, all ethnicities. Duncan's younger son. Quietly observant and cautious. Flees after Duncan's murder for survival. Strong ensemble instincts and subtle emotional presence needed.
LENNOX
Male, 20 to 40 years old, all ethnicities. A Scottish nobleman who gradually grows suspicious of Macbeth's rule. Intelligent, politically aware, and loyal to Scotland. Stage combat needed.
ROSS
Male, 20 to 39 years old, all ethnicities. A nobleman who often serves as messenger and observer throughout the play. Diplomatic, composed, and emotionally layered beneath restraint. Stage combat experience a plus.
ANGUS
Male, 20 to 39 years old, all ethnicities. A Scottish nobleman who supports Malcolm against Macbeth. Honorable, observant, and politically astute. Strong ensemble player with classical text experience preferred. Stage combat experience a plus.
YOUNG SIWARD
Male, 18 to 29 years old, all ethnicities. Siward's courageous son who confronts Macbeth in battle. Bold, idealistic, and honorable. Seeking a physically capable actor with strong stage combat skills.
SEYTON
Male, 30 to 60 years old, all ethnicities. Macbeth's loyal attendant during the final stages of his reign. Reserved, efficient, and quietly unnerving. Strong supporting actor with grounded presence.
PORTER
Male, 30 to 60 years old, all ethnicities. The drunken porter of Macbeth's castle. Provides dark comic relief while underscoring the play's themes of damnation and moral decay. Must have excellent comic timing and comfort with Shakespearean language.
ENSEMBLE / MURDERERS / APPARITIONS
Any gender, 15 to 80 years old, all ethnicities. Roles may include hired assassins carrying out Macbeth's violent orders, supernatural apparitions conjured by the witches, along with additional ensemble roles throughout the play. Seeking versatile performers comfortable with movement-based storytelling, stylized performance, and doubling multiple roles. Actors should be comfortable with physical staging, choreographed combat, and ensemble-driven work.
