GALLERY FIVE20
SHOWING IN JUNE/JULY 2026:

Show Statement:
Using sculpture, painting, and installation, Grace Kisa explores the intersection of ancient astronomical traditions and the endless possibilities of modern digital networks. African astronomy was not just about mapping the stars, it is a living practice that connects humanity to the cosmos, guiding cultures across land and sea, shaping social and ritual practices. In contrast our contemporary digital age driven by infinite networks of data and communication, presents an endless view of information and interaction.
About the Artist:
Grace Kisa (b. Kenya) is an Atlanta based multi disciplinary artist whose work explores identity, migration, and the interwoven stories of global cultures. Raised across Kenya, Ethiopia, and the United States, Kisa brings a “third culture” perspective to her practice, creating works that reflect the fluidity of home and belonging. Working primarily in mixed media sculpture she moves between installation, painting, printmaking and photography. Kisa transforms found and recycled objects into symbolic forms that merge ancestral memory with contemporary experience. Her pieces often draw on African astronomy, cosmology, and the histories embedded in everyday objects, resulting in imaginative worlds that bridge the past, present, and future.
Through her practice , Kisa invites viewers to reconsider familiar materials, reconnect with ancestral knowledge and explore the expansive possibilities of identity in a globalized world. Grace graduated from The Art Institute In Atlanta, Georgia and has worked as a professional artist for over 25 years exhibiting nationally and internationally. Notably, in 2024 Grace Kisa exhibited with the European Cultural Centre in Venice, Italy, during the exhibition titled “Personal Structures: Beyond Boundaries” in the context of the Venice Biennale.
