January First Friday Reception

  • Date: January 13, 2017
  • Time: 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm
  • Location: 520 W Waugh Street, Dalton, Ga 30720

Start your New Year off right by joining the Creative Arts Guild for January's First Friday on January 13th from 5:30 to 7:30 pm for light refreshments and the much anticipated opening reception for The Art Of The Cinema. This exhibit, curated by local filmmaker Mark Hannah and Creative Arts Guild Gallery Director Savannah Thomas, features the never-before-seen private collections of four Daltonians and celebrates over 100 years of Hollywood with a special collection of artwork, vintage movie posters and advertisements, and cultural icons. This exhibit will be focused on animated and adventure movies for the month of January. Stick around after the opening for a special screening at 7:30 of A Decade Under The Influence, a 70 minute documentary about the first batch of Creative Art Guild Young Filmmakers back in the 1970’s.

In addition to The Art Of The Cinema, we’ll also feature for the first time work by Calhoun artist, Johnathan Elakman, in Gallery III. Natural Curiosities is Elakman’s response to the unknown and the spark of imagination it creates in us all when just enough is left unsaid for our mind to begin to fill in the blank. Elakman recently graduated from Tenneessee Tech’s Appalachian Center for Craft with a BFA in Glass Studio.

Finally, returning to have an exhibit in our Jonas Performance Hall will be Dalton favorite Jody Harris, with his exhibit Cartoonery. In Harris’ signature style he combines his street art background with nostalgic icons from our past to create a body of work that is both humorous and engaging.

As always, these exhibits will be free and open to the public. Please contact Gallery Director, Savannah Thomas, at savannaht@creativeartsguild.org or (706)-279-3129 if you have any questions.
